New tax charge on transfers to QROPS

The British government proposes material changes in relation to Qualifying Recognised Overseas Pension Schemes (QROPS). They were announced by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Philip Hammond, in the first full Budget on 8 March 2017.

Urgent reminder for RPF members on Lifetime Allowance deadline

A reminder to our members who believe that the value of their pension benefits will be over the Lifetime Allowance (LTA) when they come to take their benefits: The deadline for applying for Individual Protection 2014 (IP14) is 5 April 2017.

TPAS launches online pension scam guidance tool

On 3 January 2017, The Pensions Advisory Service (TPAS) announced that it was launching an online scam identification tool – a “self-service option giving information and guidance to those who may initially be too worried or embarrassed to verbalise their concerns”.

Increases to pensions as at 1 January 2017

The annual increases in the Retail Prices Index (RPI) and the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) for the 12 months to 30 September 2016 were: RPI - 2.0%, CPI - 1.0%.
