Important update on Capita’s cyber incident

Capita currently provide administration services to the Reuters Pension Fund (“RPF”).

As noted in previous updates, Capita recently experienced a cyber incident which resulted in limited data exfiltration from their servers.

Unfortunately, we recently received confirmation that some RPF data may have been accessed as a result of the cyber incident. Our present understanding is that the impacted data relates to active pensioners and not deferred pensioners.

We are working with Capita to identify exactly which members and data has been affected, and will write as appropriate to impacted members directly, as soon as we are in a position to do so. In the meantime, we would encourage all members to be extra vigilant in looking out for potential fraud or scam activity and take steps to protect their identity where possible. You must be cautious about who you provide your personal information to in relation to the RPF or any other matter. Additional information about pension scams can be found here.  The National Cyber Security Centre and the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) provide further guidance on cyber security and data protection, as well as tips for staying secure online, that we would encourage members to refer to.

We want to reassure you that we are working closely with Capita and appropriate regulatory bodies to minimise the impact on members and provide support where possible. We will provide a further update by 8 June and appreciate your patience as we continue to work to address the incident.
